Free Security Tools Online - Passwords, Hashes & UUIDs
Security helpers that avoid transmitting sensitive input.
Security utilities and what they are for
Passwords. Length and unpredictability matter far more than clever substitutions. A random password of 16 or more characters is very hard to guess, and a passphrase of four or five unrelated words is a strong option you can remember. Use a different password for every account and store them in a reputable password manager. Turn on two-factor authentication wherever it is offered.
The generator uses your browser's cryptographically secure random number source rather than a predictable one. The strength checker estimates entropy from length and character variety. Real-world strength also depends on whether a password has appeared in a breach, which an offline estimate cannot see, so never judge a reused password by its score.
Hashes. A hash such as SHA-256 or SHA-512 turns text into a fixed fingerprint. The same input always gives the same output, and a tiny change gives a completely different result. Hashes are used to check that a file or message has not been altered. Plain hashing is not suitable for storing user passwords; use a dedicated password-hashing function such as bcrypt or Argon2 on the server.
