Working with PDFs and documents
PDF is the format people trust for sharing because it looks the same on every device. The common jobs are turning scans or photos into one tidy file, keeping the size small enough to email, and getting page dimensions right for printing or uploading.
Image to PDF. If you photograph pages with a phone, put the images in reading order before converting, and crop or straighten them first. Choosing "fit to page" gives you consistent A4 pages; keeping the image size is better for posters or screenshots.
Page size and resolution. A4 is 210 by 297 mm and US Letter is 8.5 by 11 inches. At 96 DPI an A4 page is about 794 by 1123 pixels; at 300 DPI, the usual print resolution, it is about 2480 by 3508 pixels. The page-size calculator converts these for you, which helps when preparing images that must fit a form exactly.
Privacy. Scanned IDs, contracts and invoices are exactly the files you should be careful with. The tools here assemble the PDF inside your browser, so nothing is sent to a server.
If a recipient needs to edit text, a PDF made from images will not be editable; ask for the original document or use an OCR tool for that job.
