Frequently Asked Questions
Can I enlarge images?
Yes, although enlarging cannot restore missing detail.
Does it upload my image?
No.
Which formats are supported?
Modern browsers can decode common image formats.
Choosing the right size
Enter a width or a height and leave "Lock aspect ratio" ticked to avoid stretched pictures; the other dimension is calculated for you. Untick it only when you need an exact width and height and accept distortion or plan to crop afterwards.
Typical targets: 1200 by 630 pixels for social sharing images, 1080 pixels wide for Instagram posts, 800 to 1200 pixels wide for in-article images, and 512 by 512 pixels for app and profile icons. Forms often ask for an exact size or maximum dimensions, so check the requirement before you export.
Limits: enlarging a small image cannot add detail, so it will look soft. When possible, start from the largest original. Transparent PNGs stay transparent; other images are saved as JPG with a white background.
Passport and ID photos need more than the right pixel size
Most countries also specify a background colour, head position, and print size for an official passport or ID photo, not just pixel dimensions. This tool gets the pixel size right; check your country's specific rules separately for the background and framing before you submit.
