Writing and language tools: what they can and cannot do

Counting, sorting, de-duplicating and comparing text are mechanical jobs that computers do perfectly, which is why the counters, line sorters, whitespace cleaner and diff checker here are dependable. Judging quality, tone and meaning is harder, and the rewriting, summarizing and grammar tools use simple rules, not artificial intelligence. Treat their output as a starting point.

Word counts matter more than people think. Meta descriptions work best at roughly 120 to 160 characters, tweets and many form fields have hard limits, and essays often have a strict word range. The counter shows words, characters and estimated reading time (around 200 to 250 words per minute for most readers).

Readability. Short sentences and everyday words are easier to follow. The readability checker gives an estimated score from sentence and word length. A low score is a prompt to split long sentences, not a verdict on the writing.

Always edit the result. A paraphrase that swaps synonyms can change meaning. Read the output aloud before you publish it, and give credit when you reuse someone else's ideas.
